Volkswagen Scirocco TDI by JE Design

June 30, 2009

The refiner located in Leingarten, Germany enhances the performance of the already agile turbo diesel in the VW Scirocco with an additional control unit by more than twenty-five percent from 140 hp (103 kW) to 180 hp (133 kW). Also the maximum torque increases from 320 to 400 Newton metres at 1,750 to 2,500 r.p.m. respectively. The maximum speed thereby rises from 207 km/h to 213 km/h, and the acceleration from zero to hundred is reduced by 0.9 seconds to 8.4 seconds.

Also for the new 2.0 TDI CR, JE DESIGN offers a performance enhancement of 170 hp (125 kW) to 205 hp (171 kW). With that, the Scirocco then renders a top speed of 229 km/h (serial model: 222 km/h) and accelerates from zero to hundred in 7.1 seconds (serial model: 7.8 seconds). The torque rises to 410 Newton metres (serial model: 350 Nm).

JE DESIGN offers the entire performance pack with assembly for 1,249 euros (180 hp) and 1,449 euros (205 hp) including VAT and adds a 12-month warranty.

In order to adjust the appearance to the newly gained power, JE DESIGN has created an entire body kit. The refiner produces these parts in the usual OEM-quality made of high-quality ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). The CNC-milled material ensures a low weight, perfect fitting accuracy and at the same time, the highest material stability.

The kit for 919 euros including VAT includes a front spoiler with a centre sword in carbon look which already renders a racy glance when the car is still parked. The side skirts with air inlets and a rear skirt attachment which is perfectly adjusted to the other component parts and which is also available in carbon-look renders a powerful profile. A refining kit for gull-wing doors (1,549 euros) completes the body modification.

The muffler made of stainless steel with two central oval end pipes (899 euros) renders an earthy sound and an impressive appearance. The muffler comes with an EU-operating license. The lowering springs (299 euros) which were especially designed for the VW Scirocco, lower the car by 30 millimetres and are combined with serial shock absorbers. In order to fill the wheelhouses adequately, JE DESIGN offers the elegant wheel design Multispoke as a complete wheel set. The wheels are available in the size 8×19 inches in shadow silver (2,810 euros), or graphite matt / with polished edges (2,930 euros), both with 235/35 R 19 tyres.

The sport programme for the VW Scirocco can be immediately obtained directly from JE DESIGN, from car component dealers or from Volkswagen partners. Scirocco GT with 170HP 2.0-Liter Diesel

May 12, 2009

Having already introduced the Golf VI GTD, Volkswagen has now launched a sporty diesel version of the Scirocco coupe equipped with the same 2.0-litre common rail diesel engine that develops 170HP at 4,200 rpm and 350Nm or 258lbs of torque. from 1,750 rpm. Linked to either a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG gearbox, the 2.0 TDI propels the Scirocco GT from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in 8.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 222km/h or 138mph.

The real advantage of the Scirocco GT is its low fuel consumption as it returns 46mpg US (53.3mpg UK or 5.2lt /100km) in the combined European cycle while emitting just 139 g/km (DSG: 147) of CO2.

In Britain, the diesel-powered Scirocco is available for order with prices set at £21,755 and £23,060 for the 6-speed manual and DGS versions respectively. The coupe’s standard equipment includes a six-CD autochanger, rain and dusk sensor, multifunction computer, 2Zone air conditioning, ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags.

VW Scirocco 1.4 TSI

January 21, 2009

With downsizing on everyone’s minds, smaller engines make more sense than ever – and that goes double for the Volkswagen Scirocco!

The German manufacturer has fitted the coupé with its superb 1.4-litre TSI engine, which benefits from both a turbocharger and supercharger. With 158bhp and a 0-62mph time of eight seconds, it’s no slouch, and there’s very little to differentiate the punchy and responsive 1.4 fromthe larger 2.0-litre TSI.

Economy is impressive, too. VW claims the smaller unit will achieve 43.5mpg – which is 6.3mpg more than the 2.0. But the engine is far from the only thing going for the Scirocco. As we’ve found with other variants, the handling is sweet and predictable, thanks largely to the Active Chassis Control (ACC) system, which electronically adjusts the suspension damping depending on road surface and driving style.

Inside and out, the 1.4 is identical to its larger-engined brother, offering a typically robust and well laid-out VW interior, as well as chunky, aggressive styling. So although it has 39bhp less power than the 2.0-litre, unless you’re a hardcore enthusiast, the 1.4 TSI takes the honours.

Rival: Mazda RX-8 R3
The latest RX-8 is attractive and great to drive. But it’s long in the tooth, and the looks and woeful economy are no match for the Scirocco.

Volkswagen launches base model Scirocco with two new engines

October 8, 2008

Volkswagen has made getting behind the wheel of a Scirocco just a little bit easier… in the UK. When the low-slung three-door was launched it was only available in up-level GT trim, but now it’s available in base form, starting at £18,790. For what it’s worth (not much, sadly), that converts to $32,600 at current rates, but the Scirocco still isn’t offered in the States anyway. The new standard engine is VW’s 1.4-liter TSI engine rated at 160-horsepower and nearly 43 miles per gallons in the combined EU cycle. The Base trim still includes a six-disc CD changer, air conditioning and exclusive 17-inch alloys.

A second engine is now offered in both Base and GT trims, and it’s a diesel. Displacing 2.0-liters and offering 140-horsepower, the common rail oil-burner gets over 55 European miles per gallon, with a choice of either a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox.

Abt VW Scirocco tuning Package Released

October 4, 2008

Oettinger was the first tuner to show a tuning package for the new Scirocco, and now Abt Sportsline is quickly following. The comprehensive package consists of a full body kit, rear exhaust system plus engine and chassis performance upgrades.

On the outside, Abt emphasizes the Scirocco’s forward wedged shaped look with a dramatic front bumper fascia, grille, side skirts with two air inlets, roof spoiler, rear wing and rear bumper fascia which accommodates diagonal 4-pipe rear muffler.

For brakes and suspension, Abt access their existing parts inventory for sport lowering springs which drop the ride height by 30mm and Abt’s brake kit which includes pads, rotor and calipers. Of course, Abt’s own BR or AR alloys in 18 to 20 inch size s are available with a selection of tires and wheel spacers.

Under the bonnet, Abt raises power output for the 1.4 TSI from 160 hp (119 kW) to 200 hp (147 kW) and the 2.0-liter turbo diesel to 170 hp / 125 kW (standard: 140 hp / 103kW). The 2.0 TSI is increased from the standard 200 hp (147 kW) to 240 hp (177 kW).

Available from January 2009, the entire package which includes the body pack, 4-pipe rear muffler, springs and complete wheel set (19 inch AR alloys, diamond-machined and black, plus tyres and wheel spacers) costs a very reasonable 5,990 Euros in Germany.

2009 Volkswagen Scirocco by OETTINGER

October 2, 2008

Already the successful basis version of the latest edition of the Scirocco challanges the senses – as well as the designers and engineers from OETTINGER. They already provided its predecessors with the legendary OETTINGER 16-Valve engines. The most fascinating tuning Scirocco of the time – the „Birocco“ from VW’s research department was even powered by two OETTINGER power units.

With a lot of passion and enthusiasm the OETTINMGER team have once again managed to set the standard. Pure suspense – from front to rear is how the OETTINGER Scirocco presents itself. The sporty and dynamic traits are expertly and successfully complemented by the OETTINGER body kit – this consists of Aero Flaps for the front splitter, sill extensions and a rear diffuser. As usual, all components are manufactured from high quality RIM to OEM standard and are available from December 2008.

The powerful engine conversions are also impressive. The heart of a sport coupe is and remains the engine! – This also applies to the OETTINGER Scirocco; 240 PS for the 2.0 turbo engine and 200 PS for the 1.4l TSI power plant due to modified engine management are only the beginning. Unconstrained propulsion and secure on the limit performance will be provided for before the year is out with up to 350 PS and 470 Nm (2.0 TSI), a specially tuned adjustable suspension and larger brakes. The highly polished stainless steel exhaust system from the OETTINGER turbocharger back, with its distinctive sound will also naturally be included as will a larger intercooler.

For further noticeable fun and noble appearance – Up to 20” OETTINGER type RXX sport wheels, Carbon interior, stainless steel kick plates, finest floor mats and aluminium pedals.
